Things I Love… Yoga

“Yoga means addition – addition of energy, strength and beauty to body, mind and soul.” Amit Ray

Oh, my goodness, Yoga is amazing!

I am not naturally fit and super strong and supple. I have to work at maintaining my weight and health and my fitness has been a journey from generally doing OK, to nothing at all to just maintaining. I can’t even touch my toes probably!

I wrote a blog post on when I first started Yoga – Finding Strength and Joy in Yoga, and have kept it up, kept going slow and steady.

There have been challenges come up, I have had to make it a priority and make time and get into a routine and of course in the practise itself. The body and mind resist and hold so much stuff. You have to get out of your own way in order to move and flow with ease.

Restrictions come up, blockages are exposed, and emotions arise.

Life is all connected and linked, from the body and mind to the spiritual and the physical world that we live in and you really feel this in the Yoga practise – continually re-fining and rebalancing.

“I was looking for someone to inspire me, motivate me, support me, keep me focused… Someone who would love me, cherish me, make me happy, and I realized all along that I was looking for myself.” –Unknown

I walk and swim fairly regularly but discovered yoga only 2 years ago and I LOVE it for so many reasons…

• My health – You are only as young as your spine is flexible
• My body – An awareness of breath and breathing, strength and flexibility, better posture
• My mind – Harmony and balance
• My soul – Connectedness and lightness
• Time out – Time for me… say no more!
• Discipling and routine – As my teacher so often says, you have to practise regularly and consistently.

Yoga makes me stand a little bit taller, sit up straighter and hold myself more upright.
Also, I have experienced more – Confidence, Mindfulness, Harmony, Flow and Transformation.

And as B.K S Iyengar says “The better your practice, the brighter the flame.”
